mcp23017 datasheet

The MCP23017 is a 16-bit I/O expander with serial interface, designed to provide a simple solution for expanding the I/O capability of a microcontroller or microprocessor. With the MCP23017, users can easily add 16 digital I/O pins to their system using only two wires for communication. This makes it an ideal solution for applications that require a large number of I/O pins, such as interfacing with keypads, displays, and other peripherals. The MCP23017 features a configurable interrupt output, allowing the microcontroller to be notified when the state of one of the I/O pins changes. This capability can help reduce the amount of polling required in a system, saving valuable processing time and power. Additionally, the MCP23017 supports two I2C bus addresses, allowing for multiple devices to be connected to the same bus without the need for additional address decoding circuitry. This makes it easy to expand the I/O capability of a system without sacrificing valuable board real estate. With its ease of use and versatility, the MCP23017 is an excellent choice for expanding the I/O capabilities of a wide range of applications.
